Multi-well plate patent granted
The European patent office issued patent EP2812424 on 28th August 2019. The patented invention is a multi-well plate containing a scaffold layer which provides a porous three-dimensional network of polymer nanofibres suitable for growing cells in 3D and the process for fabricating the multi-well assay plate. The Electrospinning Company manufactures the Mimetix® range of multi-well plates… Read more »
Thermoresponsive 3D cell culture scaffolds
A publication in Acta Biomaterialia by a team at Nottingham University, led by Profs Felicity Rose and Cameron Alexander, describes how a thermoresponsive polymer can be incorporated into 3D cell culture scaffolds to facilitate cell release. This thermoresponsive electrospun scaffold system combines the advantages of providing a physiologically relevant environment to maintain a desirable cell… Read more »
High-throughput quantification
Nature Communications paper “Deep learning for high-throughput quantification of oligodendrocyte ensheathment at single-cell resolution” by a team at McGill university describes how they established a high-throughput method to assess oligodendrocyte ensheathment in-vitro, combining nanofiber culture devices and automated imaging with a heuristic approach that informed the development of a deep learning analytic algorithm. This is important because… Read more »

3D X-Ray Nanotomography of cells grown in Mimetix scaffolds
A publication by Robert S. Bradley, Ian K. Robinson and Mohammed Yusuf in Macromolecular Bioscience demonstrates that X-ray nanotomography with Zernike phase contrast can be used for 3D imaging of cells grown on electrospun polymer scaffolds. The scaffold fibers and cells are simultaneously imaged, enabling the influence of scaffold architecture on cell location and morphology… Read more »
