Grant of cell therapy membrane patents

The UK patent office has issued the Kalyptix® patent (GB1914184.5) covering an immune-protective bilayer membrane. We use the Kalyptix technology platform to create implantable devices for cell therapy which act as a barrier to cells yet permit diffusion of molecules such as glucose and insulin. In addition, the European patent office has issued the microscaffold… Read more »

Multi-well plate patent granted

The European patent office issued patent EP2812424 on 28th August 2019. The patented invention is a multi-well plate containing a scaffold layer which provides a porous three-dimensional network of polymer nanofibres suitable for growing cells in 3D and the process for fabricating the multi-well assay plate. The Electrospinning Company manufactures the Mimetix® range of multi-well plates… Read more »

3DbioNet Workshop – Sheffield, UK – 6th June

Rob McKean and Mehri Behbehani will be at the 3DBioNet Workshop at Sheffield University on 6th June. Rob and Mehri are both Sheffield alumni and looking forward to some good discussions around electrospun scaffolds and 3D cell culture. Mehri, who joined us this year, will give a presentation on collaboration between academia and industry.

Stem cell culture in coated scaffolds

A simple 3-D culture system, made of electrospun polycaprolactone (PCL) fibers and coated with defined extracellular proteins that occur naturally in the stem cell niche, allowed dispersed attachment and culture of human pluripotent stem cells devoid of cell aggregation. A publication from The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm describes how PCL fiber scaffolds coated… Read more »

KTP award for smart biomaterial development

The Electrospinning Company and the University of Nottingham have been awarded a Knowledge Transfer Partnership project to develop thermo-responsive scaffolds for 3D cell culture. The Electrospinning Company has a range of materials in development for use in 3D cell expansion in bioreactors, for example to increase the efficiency of the manufacture of stem cells for… Read more »
