Innovative Collaboration Elevates Coronary Stent Performance: A Milestone Achievement

We are proud to share the success story of a collaborative effort that is transforming the potential of coronary stent devices. The Electrospinning Company is collaborating with Relisys Medical Devices, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of highly innovative cardiovascular medical devices, to develop innovative products which could advance cardiovascular care and revolutionize patient outcomes.

We coated one of Relisys’s coronary stents with a synthetic medical textile produced from CarboSil®, DSM Biomedical’s medical grade thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), using our Caladrix™ electrospinning technology which removed the need for sutures. The covered stents had low profiles and were capable of withstanding crimping, deployment, and radial expansion of 150%, without delamination or tearing. The Caladrix coatings were durable and reliable. Electrospinning and Relisys are planning further work to demonstrate the potential effectiveness of these coated stents in cardiovascular treatment.

Using The Electrospinning Company’s Caladrix technology to deposit a thin, functional polymer coating without the need for sutures, the stents can be manufactured with improved production rates and yields whilst maintaining efficacy. The result is a medical device that not only addresses medical challenges but does so with a commitment to patient well-being.

Relisys Medical Devices has expressed their enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting, “It has been a pleasure working with the team from The Electrospinning Company. From the beginning, they took the time to understand our product needs and concerns, advised us on polymer choice and processing recommendations, and ensured that every step of the process was made as easy as possible.”

The Electrospinning Company works closely with polymer manufacturers in order to make the best polymer choice for a particular product design. We are collaborating with DSM Biomedical, who have market leading medical grade TPUs supported by technical and regulatory expertise. This partnership has been instrumental in supporting the creation of high-performance biomaterial solutions for medical device products.

We are excited to announce that we will be attending Compamed in November and will showcase some of our electrospun materials and thermoplastic polyurethane coatings in DSM’s booth (Hall 8a / M27). Contact us to discuss how electrospinning can effectively address some of the challenges with incorporating textiles into and onto medical devices.

For more information and updates, stay tuned as we embark on this remarkable journey of innovation and discovery.
