About the Electrospinning Company

Design, development and manufacture of biomaterials for regenerative medical devices


The Company was established in 2010 as a spin-out by the UK Science and Technology Research Council (STFC). We are located in brand-new, purpose-built clean-room facilities on the growing Harwell Science and Innovation Campus, near Oxford, in the UK.


Our team has the expert know-how to design, develop and manufacture materials for use in regenerative medical devices and for 3D cell culture. Our capabilities include ISO Class VII cleanrooms, electrospinning equipment from different manufacturers, mechanical and laser cutting, drying and annealing, sonic welding and packaging. We hold ISO 13485:2016 medical device quality certification.

We offer a design and development service to translate electrospun scaffold innovations and ideas to scalable, clinic-ready prototypes and products. We design with a focus on downstream cost-of-goods, production scale-up and suitability for regulatory clearance. We can provide documentation including design history files to support regulatory submissions. We manufacture and supply material for use in an FDA-approved medical device that has been on the US market since 2016.

Our electrospun polymer scaffolds provide an ideal environment for supporting the growth of cells in 3D. We manufacture a range of ready-to-use, sterile tissue culture plates containing the Mimetix® scaffold for tissue engineering, regenerative medicine and drug discovery research and a range of more porous materials for use in bioreactors.
