About the Electrospinning Company

Design, development and manufacture of biomaterials for regenerative medical devices


The Company was established in 2010 as a spin-out by the UK Science and Technology Research Council (STFC) and is located at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Harwell Science and  Technology Campus, near Oxford, in the UK.


Our team has the expert know-how to design, develop and manufacture materials for use in regenerative devices and for 3D cell culture. We manufacture on a range of electrospinning equipment in ISO Class V clean rooms and are ISO 13485 certified.

We offer a design and development service to translate electrospun scaffold innovations and ideas to scalable, clinic-ready prototypes and products. We design with a focus on downstream cost-of-goods, production scale-up and suitability for regulatory clearance. We can provide documentation including design history files to support regulatory submissions. Our materials are used in an FDA-approved medical device in the USA and in a development product in Phase I clinical trials in India.

We provide a contract manufacturing service and currently supply a medical device company with a biomaterial component of an FDA-approved medical device.

Our electrospun polymer scaffolds provide an ideal environment for supporting the growth of cells in 3D. We manufacture a range of ready-to-use, sterile tissue culture plates containing the Mimetix® scaffold for tissue engineering, regenerative medicine and drug discovery research and a range of more porous materials for use in bioreactors.
